Will Dell’s Adamo Be Able To Compete With Macbook Air?

on 18 March at 12:44 pm

Dell has introduced the “Dell Adamo” notebook which is world’s slimmest notebook so-far. It is only 0.65 inches thick at its thickest part whereas Macbook air is 0.76 inches thick at its thickest point. But Dell seems to lack the strategy used by apple to make its products a luxurious fashion. Even though Macbook air is thicker than Dell Adamo but it seems much slimmer because it is only 4mm thick at the edges whereas Dell Adamo is nearly as much thick at the edges as its body!
Secondly Macbook Air has a multitouch enabled touch pad whereas Adamo lacks this! Dell has also used aluminium for Adamo’s body with sleek outlook, half of the top is textured and the other half is a gloss finish. Again giving an edge to Macbook Air whose top is more sleek with all of a gloss finish! Both notebooks have a built-in webcam.

One thing Dell has done is the “edge to edge glass screen” which gives an ultra gloss to it, is a positive point in its outlook. Keyboards of both are backlit.
A few points where Dell Adamo is ahead in the race is that it has 3 USB ports whereas Air has only one. Similarly it has an ether net RJ-45 jack which Macbook Air lacks. Both don’t have a built-in optical drive. Macbook Air solves this by allowing the use of external USB optical drive whereas Dell has a support for blue ray disc and an external optical drive. Both have a built-in battery but changing Adamo’s battery is a bit easier than Macbook Air. Adamo has an optional 3G support whereas Macbook Air doesn’t have it! Apple claims 4.5 hours of battery time for Macbook Air whereas dell claims more than 5 hours for Adamo. Adamo is available with a maximum of 1.4 GHz centrino, 4GB/2GB 800MHz dual channel DDR3 memory. Whereas Air is available with a maximum of 1.86 GHz core 2 Duo processor with 6MB on-chip shared L2 cache running 1:1 with processor speed, 1066MHz frontside bus and 2GB of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM onboard.

If I am asked, I will refer Macbook Air over Dell’s Adamo! Here’s a video review of Dell Adamo.
