iUnika Reveals Solar Powered Ultra Light Netbook

May 17, 2009 at 10:44 pm

If you are like me, you take your laptop everywhere you go; I would be lost without it.  The problem is, there are not many laptops that have a long battery life and it is a major inconvenience when having to find an outlet; It restricts you.  To solve this dilemma a European technology company, iUnika , has developed the first solar powered netbook or the GYY.  It is light weight and highly portable, but what netbook isn’t?  What makes this netbook different than its counterparts is it has a built in solar panel! The downfall is it the GYY is not very powerful.  Consisiting of only a 400MHz CPU, 128MB of RAM, a 64GB SSD drive, runs on a proprietary version of Linux, and has an eight inch screen (not to shabby).  But what  are you going to expect from a netbook powered by a solar panel?  At least you don’t have to worry about outlets anymore. The iUnikia GYY is ideal for a student or someone who hates restrictions, like me.  The good news is the GYY is only $200.  The bad news, unless you live in Europe, is it will not be available in American markets anytime soon, only European markets.
