Who’s Behind the Rejection of Google Voice From the App Store?
Earlier toay, TechCrunch reported that Google’s Voice app has been rejected by Apple. Which is now confirmed by Google. A Google spokesperson told TechCruch:
“We work hard to bring Google applications to a number of mobile platforms, including the iPhone. Apple did not approve the Google Voice application we submitted six weeks ago to the Apple App Store. We will continue to work to bring our services to iPhone users — for example, by taking advantage of advances in mobile browsers.”
I agree with TechCruch’s openion that AT&T can be the motive behind this step because Google voice lets users bypass the carrier in many ways. They can send free texts and call at low rates without having need to pay regular call/text charges. Is AT&T so important to Apple?? How can Apple do that when Eric Schmidt – CEO Google is in the board of directors of Apple Inc,.?!? I see the matter from another perspective as well. This rejection is a signal to Google that Apple didn’t like its intuitive of Chrome OS. When Google announced its Chrome OS, it was the first conflict of interest between both the companies.
If Apple does not think over this rejection, it is very much clear from the above statement that Google will not give up and will try its hard to provide voice services to iPhone users via the Safari browser. Where will this tug of war end? We can surely expect a similar head to head competition between Google and Apple as we are witnessing between Palm and Apple in the case of Palm Pre iTunes synchronization.
If the things tend to proceed in the same way, Eric may resign from Apple’s board of the directors and Americans be ready for “I’m a Mac” Vs “I’m a Google (or Chrome)” ads!!
