Android Froyo On Nexus One

Google has just announced Android 2.2 a.k.a Froyo at the I/O event and is now available for Google’s flagship android device ‘Nexus One’.

Google announced a day ago that the Nexus one would get the Froyo treat in a few weeks but to our surprise, the update is now avaiable. Previously, a few users got the update but now most of the Nexus One users have got it. If you are a Nexus One owner, you should’ve already been notified that a system upgrade was available. If not yet, you’d get it in a day or two, hopefully. No worries about the upgrade process. It is an OTA (over the air) update so you will be automatically notified when the update is available. Just accept to upgrade the phone and viola! No need to connect to a PC or any other Apple-ish stuff.

Some users have tried the update on the latest Android phone HTC EVO 4G but have failed. Ideally, the latest device should have got the update first of all but Google seems to prefer it’s own branded gadget over it’s partners. No worries though, you’d have the update very soon.

As already promised by Google, Froryo is a lot faster (may be 2x to 5x) than Android 2.1 Eclair. Obviously, all the promised features are also rocking on the upgraded Nexus Ones. Like it is capable of playing Flash 10.1, you can tether it, use it as a wi-fi hotspot, a lot lot better camera interface and a zoom touch gesture for picture collections – like iPad, a better search app, built-in task manager (great alternative to top selling ‘task killer’ Android app), enhanced enterprise features like an administrative account, built-in official twitter app and what not?

I have HTC EVO on preorder and will be picking it up on June 4th. I really dont think the 2.2 will be coming for the EVO. Big reason why is because of the “HotSpot” feature. Sprint is charging $30.00 extra for the feature and their is no way sprint is going to allow and update from google to make it free. BUT….I hope im wrong. figers crossed.

don’t ya worry, the feature might be stripped off.

I dont think it should be stripped, If anything the feature should just be for 3G only and not 4G.

HTC has already promised a 2.2 upgrade for the among other select phones in their line.

HTC’s official statement at this point is that it will be available sometime second half of this year. HTC needs to make modifications to the Sense UI to work more cleanly with Froyo (read an article on android central about it).

Aren’t they supposed to get the latest versions a lot prior than their public release? Then why a delay?

even if it doesn’t come out out for the evo, someone will port it to the evo.
