Breaking: Android 2.2 Froyo Ported To HTC EVO 4G!

Froyo On HTC EVO 4G

Here we are, with another breaking news! Android 2.2 a.k.a Froyo has been successfully ported to HTC EVO 4G!

Just a day or two ago we got to know that Froyo had been ported to HTC Desire which by chance is the most gorgeous Android phone out there. Nexus One has the Froyo already available via the official OTA update. HTC EVO 4G is not yet officially released but we have Froyo for it. Once it was rooted weeks before the official release we were pretty hopeful for the Froyo port and yes, we were so darn right.

Obviously, XDA guys have made it possible. An XDA user, Richard Ross a.k.a Toastcfh has posted a video of an HTC EVO 4G running Android 2.2 a.k.a Froyo. It is most probably the phone handed out to Google I/O participants. Well done guys! Google’s gift put to a right use!

Only things of issue are 1.) alarm clock got no pop up to dismiss or snooze the first time I used it. It’s already been fine since then but wow- that was interesting. Had to turn it off to stop the song! 2.) One day, all my imported (at Sprint store) contacts disappeared. Only the ones I had hand loaded directly remained. I lost ~ 113 names, numbers that I have no idea how to get back. They are not in my gmail or anything..

Hey Janine, that happened to me too, lost my most recent contacts including wife and mom, still had 1500 (I’m a small business) of older ones.

Did you ever find a reason or solution for why this happened?

The main thing that drew me to this phone was the streaming video and video chat. Ive been reading a lot about it and since I am not in a 4G area and could not be verified when 4g was coming to the area I was wondering if it was still worth it. I just found out that video chat is 4.99 a month which i thought it was free. I read that it often drops video calls and has very poor quality because of the slow speed of 3g compared to 4g. Also how is texting? Is the response time fast and easy for big fingers?
Tell me about your experiences with the phone. I just canceled my order for it this morning die 2 contracts with sprint through a 3rd party company.

Anyway is it worth getting anyway? And why?

How about the T-Mobile HD2 next? Now there’s a phone that is begging for Android…and it’s similar enough to the EVO that I don’t see why it can’t happen.

Wow, this would be very tempting. I love Sense UI and I drool for 2.2. The thought of both is enough reason to wait, barely. I know there’s Sense UI updates and functionality coming as well.

HTC has done a great job with Sense, but there’s something to be said about getting the latest “stock” Android version on you smartphone in days, instead of months, after it is released.

Honestly im not supprised. didn’t the evo come out at google I/O where they gave out 5000 of them, (google I/O is where they released android 2.2). so not to big of a shocker to me.
