Google will soon release its ‘Google Goggles’ app for the iPhone too. No time frame is known yet, we just heard the ‘coming soon’ word.

In an augmented reality event in Sanata Clara, a Google project manager told the participants that an iPhone app will soon be coming for Google Goggles. Another interesting thing told was that an API will also be released for Google Goggles so that developers may easily use Google’s image recognition and image based search power. Google will obviously provide the server side processing on its cloud.

Google Goggles is currently available for the Android gadgets only, having a camera built-in and access to the web. It lets users take pictures of the things, the app then processes the image and delivers relevant Google search results. The app currently works well for DVD covers, visiting cards, books, some famous landmarks and text. Google is enhancing the app to add more objects to its recognition list.

Nokia has a similar app available on the Ovi store called ‘Nokia Point and Go’. If you are a rare Nokia user in the states, you might want to check out the app.

Audience were also told that Google is enhancing its search results. For example if one searches something on the web, baby/toddler related results will be filtered out as Google knows the guy is not a father. I am not sure if such type of search enhancement will be related to Google Goggles only or to the web search too. What I feel scared of, is that Google knows a lot about me. I already boycotted Facebook over privacy and TOS concerns and now Google is after me. No Google no! I don’t need you to know everything about me, I’d better want to see the results related to babies. I like babies a lot, they are so adorably cute!
