1 Ghz processor, 5 MP camera, HTC Sense, WiFi, AMOLED screen which by the way is awesome,  are one of the few reasons to acquire this handset. The nice sensation from HTC is available for $79.99 on a 3 year contract. The contract free will cost you $449.99. So which one will you go for?

While Bill is right about the SLCD being used on the Telus Desires, he is incorrect about the previous screens being Super AMOLED. They were just regular AMOLED from what I have been reading. Super AMOLED is much better for bright areas like in sunlight, etc, and have less reflections. The SLCD is supposed to be pretty good though, and 5x less battery usage. I’d like to see how many extra minutes that actually gets the phone during a charge, though.

FYI – your post is incorrect. The Desire on Telus uses an S-LCD display made by Sony/Samsung, not the Super-AMOLED that was used in earlier releases of the Desire. How do I know? I bought one on the weekend, and I think it’s a great phone so far. I compared my new Desire to a Bell Vibrant and the two screens are quite similar, but the AMOLED is a tad brighter, with more colour saturation. When comparing photos, the AMOLED displays are actually TOO saturated and do not render accurate colour levels.

If you Google for “htc desire telus” you’ll find lots of posts about the different screen being used in the Telus model we have. Also note the specific model number for Telus is A8182 while the European model was A8181, due to the different radio frequencies used in the two markets. According to HTC, they will continue to use Super-AMOLED displays, but there is no info as to where or which models, at least not yet.

I live in Zambia – will it matter what model I buy (A8182 or A8181) or will both models work the world over when I travel?
