Rumor: BlackPad (Blackberry Tablet) to be powered by Android

on 10 August at 9:54 pm

Boy, you just can’t keep DigiTimes out of the rumor industry. The ever vocal blog has come up with yet another rumor with RIM folks being the center of Attention. Rumor has it that the BlackPad, the Canadians’ answer to the iPad is going live somewhere in November.

Digitimes has revealed that Quanta Computer will be performing the manufacturer’s part. BlackPad will provide WiFi and Bluetooth capabilites to its users but will require the assistance of a BlackBerry smartphone to provide 3G services. This dependency on a BlackBerry phone is really a concern for me and I see it as RIM wanting us to purchase their phones just to use 3G services on the Tablet.

The Tablet is likely to cost you $499 and its shipment will start in September. But here is the surprising part, BlackPad is rumored to do Android, which I am sure many of you will find hard to believe.

Performing some shopping and noticed your site appears somewhat messed up in my K-meleon world-wide-web browser. But thankfully hardly anyone makes use of it any lengthier but you may want to look into it.

I dont beleive it one bit.Infact I frown on the very thought of that rubish.2011 will be flooded with android tablets as it is.So why would they partner with their biggest threat.Blackberry just spent alot of time and money creating a new OS thats touch friendly. Not to mention its the perfect chance to win big with developers and consumers.Who every made this one up is a big dummy!

As a blackberry owner that already pays for 3G services for his phone, I welcome the tehtering capability between a tablet and my blackberry.

I don’t want to pay for 3G services twice. I’m a bb global data plan subscriber, so I love the idea of getting to use a tablet either with wifi or my existing blackberry, and leveraging the best global data deal on the planet (this is huge for those of us who travel both to Europe and/or Asia, along with using the services in the US).

While I do think it would be wise for RIM to also offer the ability to utilize separate 3G services on the tablet (to market to those without a BB), having the integration for those with a BB is the key and show that there is a expense savings with only have ONE data plan is the key.
