Samsung Galaxy Tab UI Mostly Copied from iPad

on 25 August at 3:56 pm

Oh, what’s this! I never wanted to do this post but I have to. Because Samsung has made me sad over the UI of Samsung Galaxy Tab which is going to be revealed next weak. The tablet first made appearance in the wild as Samsung P1000 Android tablet and now it is official.

We don’t have much details about the gadget, just a teaser video revealing some snaps and UI elements. Though the tablet seems to be a great contribution to the Android world, there’s something I don’t really like. The copied-from-iPad UI.

We’ve got some shots from Samsung’s teaser video revealing several UI elements of the Galaxy Tab. We’ve got them compared with the iPad UI. To our disappointment, they are very much same as the iPad.

Here’s the iPad springboard on the right and the Samsung Galaxy Tab springboard on the left. Spot the similarity. Same top bar, similar icons.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Vs iPad Email App

Here’s Samsung Galaxy S’ email app on the left and iPad’s email app on the right. This is exactly the same! Com’on samsung, even an Android guy like me doesn’t like this.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Vs iPad Keyboard

Here’s the QWERTY keyboard of the Samsung Galaxy Tab on the left and the virtul QWERTY of the iPad on the right. Yea, I have to tell you, otherwise you’d think both are the snaps of the iPad QWERTY at different angles.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Vs iPad Calander App

Even the tab colors are exactly the same in the calender numbers app!

Just a question Samsung! Why would anybody want to see an iOS interface on an Android gadget? Why the heck? If anybody does, why doesn’t he go straight for the iPad at first place? Wasn’t it a good idea to bring some innovation? Sure you guys are not great at designing UIs, we’ve seen with TouchWiz. So, why not hire some smart guy? Why not talk to some UI company like ‘Slide Screen’? It’s good to be quick. But it’s not good to plagiarise for being quick. Right?

The icons from the Samsung were in use before the iPad/iPhone/iPod because I had them on my old phone! It’s called Touch Wiz Interface.

Bought just before Christmas, as a pressie to me, and like someone above have a job to put it down. Clean easy to read on everything and anything, quick to respond, love the 6 Desktops, makes sorting and being organised v. easy.
Fits in handbag, has replaced my Kindle [that is going to grandson] will be almost perfect when Kindle brings out the ‘word meaning’ on Kindle for Android.
Can now check email anywhere without extra cost, important in this day and age.
Go get one, you will fall in love too. Small is great in this case.

Wow, my computer has desktop icons and a keyboard too. Is it a copy? It’s not like Apple invented all of those, they just made them a certain color and shape. If someone else uses the same color and shape keyboard, is it a copy? No, because Apple didn’t invent keyboards, they just made it look a certain way. My shirt is blue, and so is my friend’s. Are they copies? Different soda cans have the same shape. Are they copies? You can’t blame someone else for copying in the design industry, because how something looks doesn’t count as an invention. BTW, I’d like to Swype on an iPad, and play flash games. So what if you can play lots of games as apps on the iPad, there are a lot more online flash games.

I got this puppy a few days ago and I have not been able to put it down, it’s so freaking cool! It’s fast, I can take photos with my slr camera and load them with the micro sd card. It’s small enough to be carried easily in my bag, and big enough to read web pages and books. This will definitely replace my laptop for when I travel! Google navigation looks great on such a nice screen too.

funny article.. ridiculous. It looks similar but all of the PCs and mobiles have similar icons and application, if it is not an very old one! I mean, that kind of design is not a new one. Even I can see such a design in my pocket notebook diary. such a stupid article..

        FYI, I love Android.

Yes there are some similarities. But first of all samsung has the swype keyboard (watch the video), ipad does not. And I don’t understand the similarity between ipad numbers app and tab calendar. Completely different apps. And claiming the top bar is actually exactly same is insane. Either you don’t see what you are looking at or I don’t :). Everything in tab is on the upper right hand corner (just like stock android), iPad (time at top center, signal and iPad sign on the top left). How is this exactly same? Just because the fonts look same doesn’t make it same. And dude if you are claiming to love and use android I am not sure what type of android you are using. Those icons look nothing like iPad icons. They almost don’t even have the round edges. I agree on the email tho, they really look like a lot :p. I hope tab has some extra ports and connections. Then I am definitely buying one!

It’s funny how Samsung went out of its way to copy iPad by taking Android, which doesn’t quite look like iOS to look like iOS.

The keypads look nothing alike except for the color scheme, and white keys on a gray background isn’t exactly unique. Take a closer look at the size of the keys, the case of the labels, orientation of function keys, etc. They are nothing alike.
