YoutubeSome of you guys out there may not have Froyo yet. I know you guys are stuck with the carrier to roll out the update or you may have an old so-called non-compatible device. And you don’t wan’t to go the aggressive way brought to you by hackers which may end up in bricking your gadget. But you obviously miss some great features and default apps. How about getting Froyo’s Youtube app on your gadget running Android 2.1 Eclair? So you can have that now! Totally risk-free!

An XDA folk has ported the youtube app that comes default with Android 2.2 Froyo to Android 2.1 Eclair. All you need is a root and an Android phone running Android 2.0 or 2.1.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on doing that:

1. You need to remove the default youtube app first. To do that use ADB shell to run following commands:

adb remount
adb shell rm system/app/YouTube.apk
adb uninstall com.google.android.youtube

2. Download the Froyo Youtube app apk. Here’s the direct link:

3. Place the  YouTube_signed.apk on your SD card, and install it using the package manager.
4. Enjoy!
