Android Market In-App Payments Go Live

March 30, 2011 at 3:10 pm

We’ve been hearing for a few weeks now about the implementation of In-app payments for Android apps, and the day has finally arrived. The good folks of the Android team have announced via their blog that In-app purchases have gone live as of today. The Android team had this to say:

“In-app Billing gives you more ways to monetize your apps with try-and-buy, virtual goods, upgrades, and other billing models.”

“Several apps launching today are already using the service, including Tap Tap Revenge by Disney Mobile; Comics by ComiXology; Gun Bros, Deer Hunter Challenge HD, and WSOP3 by Glu Mobile; and Dungeon Defenders: FW Deluxe by Trendy Entertainment.”

Developers should be happy about this latest news, as it will allow them to generate additional income from their apps. Google will also be happy, as they will likely take a cut of any purchases made via apps. We, the users however might not be too pleased as the things we used to get for free might get a price tag now.
