on 7 April at 8:26 am

The Problem:

Some users are reporting that they have a white colored Cydia icon when they jailbreak their iPhones on iOS 4.3.1 with redsn0w. If you are one of them, here’s what you should be facing:

  • A white colored Cydia icon in your iPhone’s springboard.
  • When you launch Cydia from this white colored icon, it crashes.

The Reason:

If you are seeing a white Cydia icon after jailbreaking your iPhone with redsn0w, it is because the jailbreak process has not undergone properly. redsn0w jailbreak method for iOS 4.3.1 is untethered so you should automatically boot into a jailbreak state with a proper brown colored Cydia icon. But don’t worry, there does exist a solution.

Possible Solutions:

There are two possible fixes for this problem:

  • Use your iPhone in a tethered jailbreak state. In such a case you’d need it to connect your iPhone with your computer, start redsn0w, select ‘just boot tethered right now’ and your iPhone will boot with a working jailbreak state with a proper Cydia icon that does not crash. But we don’t recommend going for this solution as you may get stuck on Apple logo on reboot.
  • The other method is to jailbreak again. Read on for more details.

Warning:

DO NOT PROCEED IF you rely on a carrier unlock. There’s no working solution for unlocking iOS 4.3.1 with ultrasn0w yet.

Recommended Solution:

Why go for a hassle of a tethered jailbreak when you have got the latest version of redsn0w which can provide an untethered jailbreak for your iPhone on iOS 4.3.1? Let’s start the jailbreak process over and get rid of all the mess. Let’s begin!

  • If you don’t rely on a carrier unlock and still using an older version of iOS, follow this guide and you’ll end up on the latest version 4.3.1 of iOS.
  • Make sure you have got the latest version of iTunes.
  • Connect your iPhone to your computer and start iTunes.
  • Make a backup of your iPhone.
  • Turn off your iPhone 4 and keep it connected with the PC.
  • Now you need to enter the recovery mode on your iPhone. For that purpose press and hold home and power buttons simultaneously for about 20 seconds while keeping the iPhone connected to the PC.
  • You should see an iTunes connect graphic on your iPhone, this means that you have entered the recovery mode successfully.

  • Once jailbroken, start iTunes and restore from the backup you made above.
  • You should have a proper brown colored crash-free Cydia icon on your iPhone’s springboard now.

this is one of the reasons I don’t like tethered jb’s, other than the inconvenience of the boot but things like safari and cydia don’t work until the tether has been complete.

Is there no way of recovering it, without restoring? My friend has an i4 at iOS 4.3 (not 4.3.1) and he doesn’t have his SHSH blobs (the phone is brand new).
I guess he forgot to check XP compatibility mode for redsn0w and ended up with a White and crashing Cydia icon.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Actually i had the same problem but i found another and much easier solution.

when u get the blank white cydia icon color just open it.

it will say something like preparing system files and after it finishes it gona restart the device.

then start it again and try to do a refresh or an upgrade.

now cydia should act weird and keep poping messages for no reason saying unable to parse xxx file.

go to sources and delete the source u see in the lines of xxx above.

and BAM cydia is fixed now !.

discovered this at the last seconds before doing ur restore method.

    hope this gona help any1.
