Serendapp Cures the Android Boredom Blues

on 13 April at 6:55 pm

We’ve all been there before.  Staring at our phone.  Bored.  Flipping between home screens just looking at all the things we’re not sure we want to play with.  We love our Droid so much that sometimes we just like to look at all the shiny things, but we’re not always sure what to do.  Do you play a game?  Do you browse the Market?  Do you Google something?  Watch a movie?  Play some tunes?  There’s an app for that.  Masterdevx from the XDA forums has built us a unique app designed for just such situations.

I’ve been playing with the free version (which is ad supported) for a while now, and it’s certainly offered me some suggestions I’d have never thought of.  For instance, I pushed the random “all” button, and suddenly I was learning about the career of actress Amy Smart.  Another tap and I was playing with some options for SwiftKey that I hadn’t bothered to change, and they happened to be default options that were actually kind of annoying me.  Thanks Serendapp!  Another tap and I’m learning about Homalomena of the genus of flowering plants within the family Araceae.  Tap again, and I’m on the market looking at a random search of apps, and actually found an app for AAA auto service.  Not sure why I didn’t think to look for that before!  My conclusion?  Serendapp will not totally eliminate boredom, nor staring at the screen wondering what to do, however it certainly can help most of the time, and can even help you out by accident.  I’d encourage anyone interested to go check out the app on the Android Market!
