iPhone 4

Oh hai iPhone 5 rumors, you never stop amazing us! As the Verizon iPhone 4 is already capable of GSM as well CDMA dual mode, we are hearing that the iPhone 5 will also bear the same capabilities and that’s not it, iPhone 5 will also be a world phone!

Apple always keeps itself ahead of others when in comes to adopting new technology, they did the same while introducing iPhone 4 for Verizon by including a dual mode Qualcomm baseband chip that could handle both GSM as well as CDMA networks. As the Verizon iPhone 4 was launched way after the GSM one, it didn’t make any sense to enable both the modes as the version was only meant for Verizon’s CDMA network. iPhone 5 will be launched for both Verizon and AT&T at once and hence it totally makes sense to introduce the same hardware for both the carrier – the same is the rumor flying all around! What we didn’t hear up to know was, iPhone 5 could be a world phone! Verizon’s CFO said at company’s earnings call today:

The fluctuation, I believe, will come when a new device from Apple is launched, whenever that may be, and that we will be, on the first time, on equal footing with our competitors on a new phone hitting the market, which will also be a global device.

With many Android phones now featuring the world phone functionality, it could be a little disgusting for Apple to not have it. Nice job Steve Jobs, you leveled a fine ground for Cook to play on.
