This is not the rumored device, just a mockup
Is Microsoft entering the tablet wars with its own branded device? That’s the rumor today. In its bid to stay relevant in the ever-changing world of technology, Microsoft may be planning to launch its own Windows 8 Tablet. The rumored device would be made with the help of Texas Instruments and Taiwan-based OEMs. In order to stay competitive, the giant of the PC world has been branching out away from its OS with the Xbox 360, Kinect, and Smartphones. There are already several tablets running Windows 7 out there, but none of them made by Microsoft itself.
With Windows 8 coming along nicely, and reportedly able to work on a larger variety of hardware, Microsoft may just be making a run in the tablet space. While Apple and Google largely dominate the mobile market, especially in tablets and smartphones, Microsoft has become increasingly more irrelevant as the post-pc era rolls on. Making a bigger play for the mobile market with an OS that actually runs well on mobile devices, could be just what Microsoft needs to stay in the game for the next century.
