How To: Get Skype Video Chat on “Unsupported” Android Devices
It was only yesterday that Skype’s updated app came out supporting two-way video calling on a select number of Android devices. Well, you knew it wouldn’t be long before the guys over at XDA got their hot little hands all over the apk and broke it open to see what was inside. Currently Skype supports the Nexus S, Desire S, Xperia Neo and Xperia Pro, officially. Pulser_g2 over at XDa has managed to get the app working on the Samsung Galaxy S II, as well. He also mentions that it may work on other devices, but is untested. That’s where the Android community comes in.
Thanks to The Droid Guy we’ve learned that PocketNow has gotten the app to work on the HTC Thunderbolt now, and another dev, egzthunder1 has gotten it operating on the HTC EVO 4G. If you’re ready to give it a shot too then you can head over to Pulser’s site, VillainRom.UK and download it for yourself. Remember, you’ll need to have Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the app to work, so make sure you’re carrier has you up to date, or that you’re running a custom ROM of that version, such as Cyanogenmod 7.1. We’d appreciate if our readers would post below which device they have if they’ve gotten this working. Thanks guys!
