For those of you on Verizon who were holding out for the Galaxy S II/Function, Verizon has some bad news for you.  A Verizon Spokesperson has confirmed that their network will indeed be passing on the Samsung Galaxy S II.  The Wall Street Journal broke the story today, dashing hopes of Big Red customers who were hoping to get their hands on Samsung’s flagship phone.  At a public event scheduled for August 29th, Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy S II on America’s other 3 top networks, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint.

While you won’t be able to get the SII, BGR is reporting that they have confirmed that Verizon will be getting another Samsung phone (name unknown) that will have virtually identical specs.  In addition, the much-anticipated Droid Bionic is still set to release soon, and should make an excellent replacement device for those Galaxy S II hopefuls.  You can also look forward to Apple’s new iPhone, which is expected in early October.  That device will, without a doubt, be coming to Verizon.  What we have to wonder, now, is whether that upcoming Samsung device is the Nexus Prime.  Since we don’t know much about the nameless device, it’s hard to say at this point.
