Best Buy employees are looking to get busy beginning in early October. There’s a few directives that have gone out to employees this weekend, concerning pre-order dates for the iPhone 5, a Sprint launch, and some Apple fixtures. The first is the image you see above, a promotional activity directive for Best Buy Mobile. This document states the first week of October for the beginning of pre-orders for the iPhone 5, as well as a Sprint launch of the next-gen Apple device. The note that “launch dates are subject to change” however.
The second comes via TIMN, who had a reader send in a Best Buy merchandising planner. The planner, which is part of merchandising manager’s tools, shows incoming fixtures for Apple. Those fixtures are scheduled for an October 21st installation. From my time working for Best Buy’s merch team, I can tell you that the listed start time is about an hour earlier than what is normal for any other fixture installation. This one is scheduled for 6:00 am, where normal installations begin at 7:00 am. The October 21st date is one that lines up with the rumors of a mid-October release for the iPhone 5, too. The same tipster for TIMN also tells them that a meeting is scheduled for October 10th to discuss a “big new release” for the mobile department.
There’s no guarantee that this fixture is actually for the iPhone 5, but there are a lot of things falling into place that suggest it as a strong possibility.
