iPhone 5 Scam: Fake Apple Email Contains Windows Virus

With all the hype surrounding tomorrow’s Let’s Talk iPhone event, it only follows that the less moral among us will try to scam people looking for information about Apple’s latest smartphone.  At 10 am tomorrow we’ll all know much more about what Apple plans, but for now there is no solid evidence out of Cupertino.  But if you’re looking for pictures of the iPhone 5, or 4S, beware that a new email scam is going around offering you photos of the iPhone 5Gs.

Not only is this a mashup of the 2 anticipated models that we’re hoping to see unveiled tomorrow, but it’s a poorly written attempt to fool people.

Still some people are clicking on the link to “Check it out”, suckered in by the tagline that just sounds so much like official Apple wording: Introducing the iPhone that lets you do more than ever. And do it amazingly faster.  This should immediately tip someone off, but those that let curiosity get the better of them can even place an order and get their iPhone 5Gs by Friday!  Following the order link, though, only gets you the Mal/Zapchas-A trojan.  That’s nowhere near as cool as an iPhone.

Sophos reports that the malware is only known to infect Windows machines.  If you really want to see pictures of the new iPhone, we’ll happily post the mockups and leaks up to this point.  Check out the gallery and you can safely see what the iPhone 5 might look like.
