Susquehanna Financial Group analyst Jeffrey Fidacaro has indicated that production of Apple’s next-gen tablet, the iPad 3, is set to begin late in Q4 of this year. According to the analyst, manufacturing partners for Apple have received orders to build as many as 1 million iPad 3′s in the Q4, as noted earlier this month by Susquehanna’s Christopher Caso.
“Our checks indicate that iPad 3 has now shown up on AAPL’s production forecast for a late-4Q production start…We believe 0.6 mln-1 mln units are forecasted for 4Q production.”
Last week, analysts for Ticonderoga Securities said that Apple would be introducing an iPad Mini in the first part of 2012. That device would not necessarily be a smaller iPad. Steve Jobs made no secret of the fact that he believed a 10″ tablet was the ideal size, and a 7″ was out of the question. The iPad Mini would be a lower-cost device, possibly in the $200 range. The analyst then went on to say that a full-feature iPad 3 would go on sale in the latter part of 2012.
