It’s been a long, hard wait for the Galaxy Nexus for US customers. Verizon has been very quiet about one of the most anticipated devices of the year. While several release date rumors have come and gone, the wait may be drawing to a close. Verizon-Authorized retailers quietly slipped this document to the Rootzwiki news team this morning, fingering a launch date of December 15th. As the document states, the “New launch date is 12/15. No product is to be sold or displayed until that date.”

Previous rumors indicated a December 9th, then 12th, then 14th date, but these were based on dates found on retail websites. What makes this different is that it comes direct from a retail partner. We will, however, remain skeptical until we actually see something from Verizon directly. Verizon’s PR department did issue this statement early this morning:

The Galaxy Nexus is still on track to launch this year. We will definitely send a press release to announce availability. Feel free to visit www.verizonwireless.com/galaxynexus to sign up for email alerts to be one of the first to know.

That doesn’t make it sound like an imminent launch on the morrow. However, we also hear that this is going to be a “soft launch” meaning no pre-order period and no fanfare. Verizon, meanwhile, declines to say one way or another. The Galaxy Nexus has already launched in several countries around the globe, leaving the US market behind, possible until the end of the year. Recently, Best Buy accidentally sold a few units, and has been asking for them back. The reason? A software bug, which has apparently been delaying the launch. That “bug” could also be the inclusion of Google Wallet, a service for mobile payments, which was rumored to be left out of the US version of the device in favor of Verizon’s own mobile payment system. We’ll all be waking up tomorrow, and we’ll know for sure whether our Nexus dreams have come true.

If you just can’t wait to try out a Nexus, though, Verizon has just launched a Galaxy Nexus Simulator. It’s almost the same thing, right?
