iPad 3 Specs, Features, Pricing and Release Date Information

Tim Cook unveiled Apple’s latest generation iPad, which will be named: the iPad. There’s no 3 or HD here. Apparently the re-branding is dropping numbers, and sticking with the simple iPad tag. The new iPad pretty much matches the rumors that have been flying around for the last several months, and featured little in the way of surprises. First, let’s run down some of the rumors, and see how the reality stacked up.
Rumor:
- 4G/LTE
- Retina Display
- Siri
- Haptic Feedback
- No Home Button
- Quad Core Processor or A5X Dual Core with enhanced graphics chip
Reality:
- 4G/LTE is coming to North America. The listed providers will be AT&T, Verizon, Rogers, Telus, and Bell
- Retina display with 2048×1536 resolution, 264 ppi, and over 3.1 million total pixels
- Dragon Voice dictation from Nuance, but no Siri
- Same old home button
- No haptic feedback
- A5X dual core processor with quad core graphics
- 5MP iSight camera with 1080p recording, 5 element lens, IR filter, auto exposure, auto focus
- 1.4 lbs
- 9.4 mm
- Black or White colors
Preorders begin today, and the iPad will be released on March 16th. Pricing details are as follow:
- Wifi versions: $499 for 16GB, $599 for 32 GB, $699 for 64GB
- LTE models: $629 for 16GB , $729 32 GB, $829 for 64GB
