The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer just made its US debut a few as pre-orders began. A few folks were fortunate enough to catch the early pre-orders phase before it vanished from the web, and they got themselves a Transformer a little earlier than the rest of us. If you did manage to get one of these super new tablets, there is a root solution available for you already, as well as ClockWork Recovery.

All Credit goes to BumbleDroid and Rayman at AndroidRoot.mobi for this method. This Link is the original guide. You must refer to it first as this will be the most up-to-date information.

Warning:

Rooting can cause serious damage to your device and will void your warranty. By doing so you take full responsibility for any bricks/fires/android uprisings/universal armageddon.

Before you begin:

You will need a micro SD card at all times.

ASUS OTA updates will not work after you have rooted.

The posted version will not work with any android version except 3.x

Download the File Pack Here before you begin.

Step-by-step Guide

To honor the wishes of the developers of this method, we will link you to their guide page. In order to always provide you with the most up-to-date and relevant information on this process, it is important that you always refer to these developer’s guides. With that said, please follow the link below.

ASUS Transformer Root Guide

Enjoy your rooted tablet, and check back with us for more updates as they roll out!

HP had shown off an Android powered smartbook at CES 2010. It had a 10 inch resistive touchscreen with 1 GHz snapdragon processor. Other specs were not unveiled and they are still unknown. Engadget just found that HP has submitted an Android powered netbook to FCC for approval and it is definitely the same ‘Compaq Airlife 100′.

We had been eagerly waiting for a powerful Android netbook or smartbook but nothing could satisfy us. It seems that our dreams are about to come true. Compaq Airlife 100 can be the answer to the Android netbook demands. It supports AT&T’s 3G bands so we can hope to be connected to the web all the time. What disappointed me is its form factor. Resistive touchscreens are in fact the ‘hit screens’ not the ‘touch screens’. It would be a bad bad experience to play with it when it has no support at the back. Resistive touchscreen usually need some force to be applied on them to respond. The hanging laptop-like touchscreen will keep on vibrating after each touch (or hit) action. I am not demanding a back support but the screen could be allowed to fold completely to the back of the keyboard. Or it could be allowed to be rotated and then folded like the HP touchsmart.

Unfortunately, we have not found any signs of official Google support to the device so we can expect lack of Google apps like the Android Market, maps etc. The demo unit at the CES also lacked the Android market.

Taiwan’s institute of Information industry has come up with something really interesting. Their Mtube II netbook has two great features making it a really useful gadget. First, the screen is removable, to be used stand-alone as a touch screen tablet. Cool eh? Yeah! It is really something which I day dreamed many times. You can take the screen off the netbook body when you want to use it as a tablet. It is not something like other tablets which have their keyboards folded and thus giving an extra thickness to the tablet mode. The tablet is slick and smart with keyboard completely taken off.

Second, it runs windows XP as well as Android OS. Yes! this thing really does exist, just take the tablet off the netbook body and it will automatically switch to Android OS so you can enjoy all great mobile computing with a great mobile device operating system. As soon as you put the tablet back into the netbook body, the OS switches back to windows XP. Are you stuck with Android when in table mode or XP in netbook mode? No! Not really, you can run the OS of your choice when you want. In the video demo by jkkmobile, the netbook mode is running windows XP and Android OS simultaneously, it seems something like VMWare.

Other specs include an Atom processor but the battery life in the early prototype is 2-3 hrs approximately.

First we saw a lab experiment showing Android running on a development kit. Then we saw John Doug of Dell previewing Dell mini with Android OS. Now Acer has also jumped into the race with the announcement of an Android netbook. The Wall Street Journal reports that Acer will launch its Android based netbook later this year, the date announced is October 2009. No details about the specs but it will most probably be an Atom one.

I am not very much hopeful for all these Android netbooks because G1 users are not very happy with their phones. Even the Cupcake update is not a good deal. However, if ‘Rosie‘ is something real then Android gadgets might become acceptable!

Android is being considered as the most powerful mobile OS so far. There had been attempts of hacks to run Android on netbooks but they had a lot of errors. We also saw a small chip-set running Android OS and MSI had also announced to launch an Android based netbook. All these discussions, news and rumors have created a lot of hype for an Android netbook. That might be the reason that dell has come up with this video to demonstrate a Dell Mini running android OS.

I have an objection! Why didn’t Doug demonstrate a few apps or functions on the Android netbook? Showing only a desktop is not a success at all. Should we consider that they succeeded to run the OS only and no functionality working? Whatever! It doesn’t mean that Dell is coming up with an Android Netbook!

As you can see, Android OS is being run via a keyboard on a netbook-type screen, without any bugs and error messages. Though no program showed running, yet booting is a giant leap! Welldone Moto, we are looking forward to some guy who picks up the idea to develop an Android Netbook!

The netbook will probably be based on MSI wind.

We had been hearing the rumors about Android powered netbooks including the hacks trying to run Android OS on netbooks. But this is the first time that some netbook manufacturer is going to take some serious measure. But the question arises that if Android netbook will be a good intuitive or not? Microsoft, a few days back, had announced a light version of Windows 7 for netbooks. So how will android stand against Windows 7? Instead of going towards applying mobile OS to netbooks, manufacturers should work on applying the light version of Windows 7 to the netbooks. There might be some issues in performance but this will definitely be the better option.
